Hello lovely readers! Man, is it me or has this month felt long? Well, no need to fret May has arrived, and I in turn have made her a TBR. So before I start let’s get a couple of things out of the way:
- My TBRs are broken up into three sections. The first being picks from my TBR Jar. What’s my TBR jar? I’ll probably make a separate post for that, but essentially I randomly pick out two or three titles out of a list of books I own, and then force myself to read them. If I don’t end up getting to it, then I unhaul it. Mostly, I use it as a clean up system. Meaning, I make sure older titles are getting attention, and I’m not just letting the books on my shelf gather dust. Second, are my Book of The Month pick(s), which is pretty self-explanatory. Lastly, are the books I’m just generally excited to get to this month.
- I like making a TBR of 6 to 8 books to give myself some breathing room for mood reads. I should probably preface that I’m not strict with my TBR. It’s fun to plan my reading ahead, but if I’m not feeling it then I’ll change things up without a problem. I guess what I’m trying to say is don’t take this list too seriously haha.
Now, let’s get to the TBR picks:
You may notice these are the exact picks from last month. This hasn’t happened yet on my TBR jar journey, but basically I was extremely busy in April and couldn’t find the energy for 500+ page books. The reason I’m not unhauling these is because I’m genuinely looking forward to reading these, so I’ve decided to give myself a freebie and extend it a bit longer.
- The Unexpected Everything : Ah a Morgan Matson book. So far I’ve read three of her previous novels and found them to be a bit lack luster if I’m honest. They’re simple quick reads but I do feel they lack a certain substance. Although, I’ve heard from several people that this is her best, so that does make me hopeful. Plus, who doesn’t love dogs?
- The Heart’s Invisible Furies: I’m not going to lie, the size of this book terrifies me. That being said, I am excited yet nervous to get to this one. If you didn’t know, John Boyne wrote one of my all-time favorite books titled A Ladder to The Sky. I don’t know much about this one except that it’s historical fiction, involves gays, and is set in Ireland. But honestly, I’m desperate to name Boyne my favorite author, so I don’t need to know much.
Time to take a gander at my Book of the Month picks:
Okay, but these covers!!!! Seriously, jaw on the floor swoon-worthy. Anyways, to make things short and sweet I’ll be adding BOTM’s short-take synapses for each.
- My official May pick is The Bride Test by Helen Hoang.
- Quick-Take: Liked The Kiss Quotient? This one’s even better.
- Good To Know: Happy. Multiple Viewpoints. Light read. Buzzy.
- My add-on is With The Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo.
- Quick Take: Fire up the oven, because this inspiring story of family and ambition will make your stomach grumble.
- Good To Know: Feminist. Social Issues. Famous Author. Buzzy.
Finally, the books I’m excited to get to:
- Everything All At Once : I heard ChelseaDolling Reads raving about this one along with most other Katrina Leno books, and I’m ready to hop on the bandwagon at last.
- Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow: Speaking of bandwagon, you might’ve heard the entire bookish community raving about this one in the last year. From what I gather, it’s the only thing that comes close to Harry Potter, which in itself is a pretty good sales pitch.
- Heir of Fire: I’m being a little too generous by adding this chunky book to the TBR. However, I bought the entire series last year and have yet to move onto the third book. I’ll be honest and say this series just doesn’t have me as hooked as everyone else. Both earlier installments in the series took me upwards of a month to finish, and the process wasn’t entirely enjoyable. But hey, here’s to hoping!
Should we make it a game and bet how many of these will end up in my wrap-up? Mmm maybe not. I’m not sure I’m ready for that level of roasting quite yet.
